Thirty-four designers, writers, strategists, motion designers and engineers in Clerkenwell and Lisbon. Independent since 2013, owned by the people who run it, and never more than ten projects at once.
Thirty-four of us in all: eleven designers, seven engineers, five motion designers, four writers, four producers and three strategists. Every project is led by one of these four, from the first call to launch.

Two rooms, one clock
Lisbon and London keep the same time all year, so nothing is handed over between them. One stand-up, one Thursday review, and every team staffed from both rooms.

The person who pitches your project runs it, from the first call to launch. Not a hand-over to whoever happens to be free.
Thursday is review day.
Every client sees work every Thursday, finished or not. Nothing waits for a big reveal, so nothing surprises you at the end.
The moving version first.
A new mark is tested on a phone, in motion, before it ever appears in a PDF. If it cannot turn, split and settle, it is not finished.
Decisions get written down.
One shared log, one line per decision. Nobody re-opens week three in week nine, including us.
Home by six.
We plan for normal hours. Weekend work is a planning failure, and we treat it like one, starting with the timeline.
Work with us
Two open roles. We hire slowly and keep people: designers here stay six years on average.
You will join Kayode’s motion team of five, working across both studios on identities that have to move: marks that turn, launch films, and the small animations that make a product feel finished.
What you would work on
Noturna’s second festival season: titles, idents and wayfinding in motion
A launch film for a payments client, from boards to final grade
Motion systems for two identities currently in design
What you will do
Lead motion on two or three projects at a time
Write motion principles and toolkits clients can actually use
Direct 3D and edit freelancers when a project needs them
Present your own work at Thursday reviews
You probably have
Five or more years in motion for brands or studios
After Effects at a high level, and Blender or Cinema 4D
A real feel for typography in motion
A portfolio that shows process, not only finals
What we offer
€52,000–€62,000 a year
Hybrid: Tuesday to Thursday in the studio
27 days holiday, plus the studio closes from Christmas to New Year
€1,500 a year to spend on learning
Relocation help if you are moving to Lisbon
How to apply
Email a link to your work and a few lines about two projects you would want to talk us through. No cover letter. Send it to jobs@orvel.studio with “Senior motion designer, Lisbon” in the subject line.
What happens next
A 30-minute call with the lead you would work with
A portfolio conversation with two of the team
A paid half-day task (£300 or €350), never unpaid
We reply to everyone within ten working days.
You will build the sites we design, alongside six other engineers and next to the designers who drew them. We build everything in-house, so what ships is what was designed.
What you would work on
A booking site for a group of small coastal hotels
A Shopify relaunch for a running label, with a heavy motion layer
A marketing site for a fintech, prototyped in code from week four
What you will do
Build in Astro and Next.js, on Sanity, Shopify or Webflow
Own performance and accessibility on every launch
Prototype interactions with designers before they are signed off
Mentor two mid-level developers
You probably have
Five or more years building production websites
TypeScript and CSS you are proud of
Experience with GSAP, WebGL or both, or a strong wish to learn
Patience for the last ten per cent
